Pocketnow had a look at the unit and gave it high marks for the 256MB ROM, fast processor speed, gorgeous graphics and screen, increased battery life versus the X50v, and, of course, for Windows Mobile 5. However the latter is a double-edged sword, as you’ll have to be careful about installing third party apps if they haven’t been updated for WM5. There’s also no A2DP Bluetooth profile support, though it’ll supposedly get added later in the year with a WM5 update. The other thing they’d have liked to see is a wider viewing angle on the screen so that you can watch movies in landscape.

URL : http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=697&p=1
DATE : 20/09/05

The Rescue Buoy robotic lifeguard

Jens Andersson of Sweden won the BraunPrize for Technical Design for his water based Rescue Buoy concept. The robot would monitor waterways used for recreation and then rescue a person drowning under the “direction of the lifeguard.” A team of robotic lifeguards could monitor an entire beach. The Jury liked the idea because as we know, typically the sole mission of any robot is the destruction of the human race — “lifesaving robots are still rather unusual” they concede.

URL : http://www.gizmag.co.uk/go/4617/1/
DATE : 19/09/05

New smart clothing will help regulate body temperature

The University of Bath and the London College of Fashion are working on biometric clothing which will help you to release your seed. Uh, metaphorically that is. See, they’re currently researching a special material with teeny tiny “spikes” that react to your sweaty meat sack (read: skin) to regulate airflow — when you get warm the spikes open, when you get cold they close. Just like the system used by pine cones to drop their seeds, Expect to see this new material on display at Expo 2005 in Japan starting March 2006.

URL : http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/09/wip_smart_cloth.php
DATE : 17/09/05

Xbox 360 launch date is November 22

Well, it’s finally official. Sure, there have been other calculator/keypad combos before, but most have been wired, and none have so successfully simulated the look of a take-and-toss dollar-store model. Of course, you’d better be careful not to take that look too literally, since prices on these range from $45 to $63.

URL : http://www.casio.co.jp/release/2005/mz120_jz120_mz20.html
DATE : 14/9/2005

HHB FlashMic Digital Recording Mic

the world’s first digital recording microphone is finally available for the Karaoke enthusiasts in all of us. If you’re willing to ignore the fact that the headphone jack is located on the bottom of the device (sigh), you’ll be otherwise rewarded with a device that’s no more than 62% the size of the once diminutive iPod mini; it weighs 1.5 ounces (42 grams), has a maximum of 14 hours battery life, will come in black (as well as iPod white), and includes a few new niceties such as a nighttime inverse screen mode. Perfect for when you want to get that good old tube amp sound out of the Fraunhofer compressed music stored inside your digital portable audio player. I tend to think the IMPAMP's appeal is as much about looking retro-chich by showcasing it on a desk or bookshelf (it even has glowing blue LEDs that pulse with the sound) as it is about the warm rich sound it will extract from an iPod.

URL : http://www.impamp.com/
DATE : 06 SEP 05

Japanese Toyotas equipped with networked anti-theft cameras

<img style="DISPLAY: block; They found it easy to set up, though it generates a floor full of messy cables in the process. They also found it lacking in volume and power for listening to music and movie watching, though the device does feel right at home in a gaming environment. Particularly for first-person shooters, the X-Woofer adds a more compelling and direct experience from explosive effects. So while you might not want to pick this up for your home theater, it could be well worth the 80 bucks to enhance those transquil evenings of blowing stuff away.

URL : http://www.hardwarezone.com/news/view.php?id=2321&cid=2
Date : Aug 31, 2005

Airvantage vest uses your breath as insulation

With summer just about over, we’re already starting to look for solutions to that winter chill, and the first thing that comes to mind is heated clothing. That’s where the Airvantage vest comes in. Bill Schroeder, a mathematician for aircraft maker Lockheed (now Lockheed Martin), developed a computer program that made it possible to predict precisely the RCS of such an aircraft exterior. Eventually, his idea led to a design in which the exterior's facets focused incoming radar radiation into narrow beams and redirected the beams away from the enemy's radar equipment. Designers jokingly called it "the hopeless diamond," because its shape was less than ideal for flying, but stealth was on its way to becoming a reality.

URL : http://military.discovery.com/convergence/stealth/article/article.html
Date : 29/8/05

Snake-Like Robot Conquers Obstacles

Wheeled and tracked robots often have problems maneuvering over rough terrain.
